Hatem Ben Arfa accused of being overweight again

Hatem Ben Arfa was left out of the PSG squad for four matches in succession, before injury was put forward as an excuse for him missing from a fifth matchday squad in a row this midweek away at Ludogorets.

However, a theory as to why Hatem Ben Arfa has been missing for the past month has been put forward.

Another player who has also appeared for both PSG and Newcastle United, Fabrice Pancrate, claims that Hatem Ben Arfa is currently overweight.

Pancrate further says that the player himself accepts this to be the case and believes that an agreement has been reached with the manager – presumably for both to not comment in public on it until Hatem fights the flab.

This isn’t the first time Hatem Ben Arfa has been accused of carrying overweight at the start of a season, back in August 2013 Newcastle fans couldn’t believe the shape he was in as the season kicked off.

The player’s agent later claimed that it was only a minimal weight increase and it was pretty much all extra¬†muscle anyway…(as I often tell my wife!!)

Fabrice Pancrate reported by ESPN:

“I think the two men (Hatem Ben Arfa and Manager Unai Emery) discussed things privately and there are things we do not know.

“Ben Arfa is a player blessed with tremendous talent. Intrinsically, he is better than Di Maria, Pastore and Lucas.

“Right now he is a little overweight, but he is aware of that. I could be wrong but I think an agreement was reached with the coach.

“They have picked up some very good players but not of the same calibre as those who came before.

“The new signings are good. However, the recruitment was in the image of the new coach. The transfer dealings were more Europa League than Champions League, as it was before with the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva and Thiago Motta.”
