Former teammate says Tottenham wasn’t where Moussa Sissoko thought he was going

It was a major surprise for Moussa Sissoko when he ended up signing for Tottenham.

It turns out that serious interest from Spurs was as last minute as it appeared, with an initial derisory £16m offer on the eve of deadline day and then finally being forced to go up to £30m in the final hours.

Former teammate Tim Krul has revealed in an interview what Moussa Sissoko had told him just days before he ended up moving to North London.

Speaking to Ajax TV, the on loan keeper says that Sissoko had told him he was expecting a move to either Juventus or Inter Milan, two clubs who had regularly been linked with the French international throughout the transfer window.

We’ll probably never know whether or not the Italian clubs were serious contenders but it is a possibility that they were a fallback position with lower offers, if a Premier League side such as Tottenham hadn’t come up with an acceptable deal.

Moussa Sissoko himself had made clear in various interviews that staying in the Premier League was his preference.

Tim Krul talking to Ajax TV:

“He (Moussa Sissoko) thought himself that he would be going to Italy and that’s what he told me only last week…and now he is in London.”
