Some important messages put out by Rafa Benitez at his Newcastle v Wolves press conference.
On the eve of the cup match with Wolves, the United boss has reminded a lot of people as to their responsibilities.
For the players: Rafa says that ‘Now is the time to realise it is not a parade’, adding ‘We have to work hard in every single game’.
For the Newcastle supporters, Rafa Benitez says that ‘We need to be United, just like the name of the team – we need the fans to stay with the team’.
To emphasise the job the Newcastle fans have to do, Rafa says that have to make the difference both ‘when we’re doing well and when we’re not doing well’.
In his press conference, Rafa Benitez also confirmed that the club were challenging what looked a very harsh red card that was handed to Vurnon Anita on Saturday.
“We need to be United, just like the name of the team – we need the fans to stay with the team.
“We will make some changes to keep everyone on their toes. Everyone can help and make a difference. All the players have to be ready.
“We have to try to support the players. The fans can be the difference for us when we’re doing well and when we’re not doing well.
“The team needs the right mentality. Now is the time to realise it’s not a parade. We have to work hard in every single game.
“After QPR, I said there was plenty of room for improvement. Every press conference I say ‘the game will be tough’, and that is true.
“I gave the two best players from Tuesday, Ayoze Perez and Jonjo Shelvey, the chance to play (v Wolves) to keep their confidence.
“We made technical and tactical mistakes. We were unlucky with the own goal, but we have to manage these situations.
“We have watched the game back and have been talking to the staff and players; analysing what was wrong and trying to fix the problems.”
