Championship recent form table looks interesting ahead of Aston Villa v Newcastle

The Championship recent form table make interesting reading ahead of Aston Villa v Newcastle on Saturday.

After the first couple of round of fixtures, the two clubs have gone in very different directions.

As you can see from the table below, over the course of the last six Championship matches, Newcastle are clear at the top – despite the home loss to Wolves on Saturday.

United have picked up 15 points in these last half dozen games, with top two in the division, Huddersfield ad Norwich, next best with 13 points out of the last 18.

Only three clubs have gathered less points than Aston Villa in this last half dozen game form table, Roberto di Matteo’s men only gathering five points from the possible 18.

Newcastle’s record of five wins and a defeat, obviously compares very favourably with Villa’s five draws and a defeat.

Students of form would think that at the very least Newcastle shouldn’t lose and deserve to be big favourites to win.

If both teams play to their best then not many neutrals would bet against Newcastle winning and hopefully that defeat to Wolves has got rid of any complacency that built up due to the winning run.

Newcastle United are the form team and favourites to be promoted, now they just have to go out and prove it against a Villa team who will be desperate not to be shown up in front of their own fans.
