Can anybody (especially Rafa) ignore these compelling Gouffran stats?

Tuesday night saw yet another excellent Yoan Gouffran performance and a cracking goal to top it off.

If only Newcastle had had a player like this in the last few seasons…

Whether the former Bordeaux player would have been capable in the Premier League if properly used in recent years will always be an unknown but he certainly appears to be thriving at this level.

The stats from this season are quite amazing when it comes to Yoan Gouffran.

In eight Championship matches this season, Newcastle have won five and lost three.

Yoan Gouffran has started all five wins but taken no part at all in the three defeats.

In the League Cup he started last night’s win over Wolves but not the victory over Cheltenham, though he did come on as a 24th minute sub for Rolando Aarons when the score was still 0-0, United going on to win that game 2-0.

So is Yoan Gouffran just a lucky talisman or a key player this season, either way it looks very difficult for Rafa Benitez to leave the Frenchman out at Aston Villa – no matter how many other options he has at his disposal.

Matches so far:

Fulham 1 Newcastle 0 (No Gouffran)

Newcastle 1 Huddersfield 2 (No Gouffran)

Newcastle 4 Reading 1 (Gouffran started)

Bristol City 0 Newcastle 1 (Gouffran started)

Newcastle 2 Cheltenham 0 (Gouffran 24th minute sub when scores 0-0)

Newcastle 2 Brighton 0 (Gouffran started)

Derby 0 Newcastle 2 (Gouffran started)

QPR 0 Newcastle 6 (Gouffran started)

Newcastle 0 Wolves 2 (No Gouffran)

Newcastle 2 Wolves 0 (Gouffran started)

With Gouffran played 7 won 7, goals for 19 goals against 1.

Without Gouffran played 3 lost 3, goals for 1 goals against 5.
