Rafa Benitez confirms new signing coming in
Rafa Benitez has confirmed that at least one more signing will arrive at Newcastle United before the window closes.
The Newcastle boss will make it at least 10 incoming deals this summer with another forward arriving by Wednesday night at the latest.
Rafa Benitez said on Friday that he’d given the go ahead for Adam Armstrong to fix up another loan deal because he is going to bring in an ‘experienced striker’.
Rafa says it was vital that the likes of Armstrong and others were signed up for the long-term but that when you want to try and ensure promotion at the first attempt, you have to go with experience.
The Manager clearly has a striker, or strikers, lined up and no doubt the imminent departure of Moussa Sissoko is likely to spark another flurry of transfer deals in and out.
Newcastle are reported to have finalised a deal to bring left-back Achraf Lazaar in from Palermo, with claims in Italy that he will arrive on Saturday for his medical.
As for Adam Armstrong, Rafa says the young forward has been in touch with a number of clubs to talk about a loan deal and there will be no shortage of offers.
“We extended the contract of Aarons, Armstrong and Sterry, because we want to be sure that these young players will be here and grow with us.
“But he (Adam Armstrong) knows that we’ll sign an experienced striker and has been in contact with some clubs that can maybe take him on loan.
“I think he’s doing well and has the confidence that he can do well, but the problem when you are in the Championship and you want to go up quickly is that you need experience.
“If you have young players you know that they have the talent but maybe it’s not the right time – they need more experience and then they can give what they have all season.”
(***Saturday afternoon brought news as to the apparent identity of the player, with Sky Sports revealing that Newcastle and Ipswich had agreed to the transfer of Daryl Murphy, after the player put in a transfer request)
