Predicted Rafa Benitez Newcastle team v Huddersfield

Here is the predicted Newcastle team v Huddersfield that I think Rafa Benitez will choose this afternoon.

Whilst many fans have predicted wholesale changes after the disappointing display at Fulham, I think the Newcastle boss will tinker with his team rather than take it totally apart and put it back together with any number of new parts.

I was interested to see a team featuring five changes put up by one of our contributors yesterday but I can’t see Rafa going quite as attacking as that formation.

Both Colback and Anita were really poor last week but I think the Dutchman will cling onto his place for now, resisting the temptation to bring in Jonjo Shelvey – a player who he hasn’t exactly favoured much since Rafa arrived in March.

Mohamed Diame replacing Jack Colback looks straightforward, whilst I think Ayoze Perez will be given another chance to see if he can produce in this much attack from last season.

Worrying rumours that Matt Ritchie could be a doubt and that he allegedly hasn’t trained, will hopefully prove false, as he was by far Newcastle’s biggest threat at Fulham and man of the match (of the 14 Newcastle players used – for what that’s worth).

Rafa has revealed that the biggest reason that he left Chancel Mbemba out eight days ago was because he’d missed a number of training sessions through injury. Back to full fitness and regular training, surely he will come back in for Grant Hanley and resume his promising partnership with Lascelles.

With Brendan Galloway’s loan deal taking longer than expected, I think that Dummett will find himself very fortunate to be kept in the team after he was United’s worst player at Craven Cottage. Can’t see Rafa being too knee jerk and putting Jesus Gamez in for a first start.
