Predicted Rafa Benitez Newcastle team v Bristol City
Here is the predicted Newcastle team v Bristol City that I think Rafa Benitez will choose on Saturday.
After making four changes after each of the opening two games, I fancy Rafa to keep it to only two different faces in his team for Bristol City.
Speaking at his press conference ahead of Saturday’s visit to Ashton Gate, the Newcastle boss claimed his biggest reason for making four changes against Reading was simply due to the number of matches in quick succession – but there seems little doubt he hasn’t been happy with various players so far.
Newcastle might have won 4-1 against Reading but the Newcastle boss will be looking for the team to get rid of some of the sloppy play and mistakes that saw yet another cheap goal conceded, this time by Ciaran Clark.
I fancy that he will be one of the two players to be left out, with Captain Jamaal Lascelles returning after missing out on selection against Reading.
I can’t see Rafa trying out yet another new partnership so early in Hanley and Mbemba, plus I reckon the Manager will have seen this as a swift wake up call for Lascelles, as well as the fact that Clark was pretty poor and should step down anyway.
At his Friday press conference, Rafa claimed that whilst Moussa Sissoko was training, he still isn’t fit enough to be involved. However, he also stated that Mohamed Diame was available for selection after his ankle problem.
I see him bouncing straight back in and hopefully leaving his poor performance against Huddersfield well behind. Ayoze Perez had another poor game on Wednesday and will be the one most likely to drop out.
Elsewhere, I think Rafa will surprise and keep Gouffran in the team, he was average at best but at least was putting the effort in and that could be enough to get him another start.
