The last time Newcastle were in the Championship they went the full season unbeaten at St James Park, so what do Huddersfield fans think about smashing that at the first opportunity this time around?
Well to be honest, they sound quite happy…
The media, ‘experts’, and some Newcastle fans might have seen the three points as a certainty but the vast majority of United supporters know not to take anything for granted.
A poor Newcastle performance and a very good counter-attacking one from the visitors, saw Huddersfield unlucky not to score before they eventually did on the stroke of half-time.
With Ritchie on it helped Newcastle to improve in the second half but victory to the Terriers.
So what did Huddersfield fans make of it?
Here are a range of views taken from the top Huddersfield fans message board Down At The Mac:
‘In fairness to Newcastle I thought they looked a better side than Brentford. I couldn’t believe that that Lascelles was their captain, thought he was the weak link in their side, Kachunga had him on toast.’
‘That’s good for Kachunga, as Lascelles has always been pretty highly rated and looked very decent couple of times I’ve seen him.’
‘On way back to station, coloured town fan was punched by a dwarf Geordie and aggressively pushed by a middle aged Geordie who obviously had some serious growing up issues .
Result a good number of very decent Newcastle fans turned on these two tw*ts including a lady who pointed out she was filming them on her phone.Town fan uninjured and utmost respect for the 10/20 Magpies who went to his assistance and blocked these two W*nkers .
Cracking day in a football fanatical city.’
‘I have to say that I was very impressed with all the Newcastle fans I met and thought the stewarding at the game was a notch above some of the sh*t we often see.
Not sure I could cope with the 175 steps up to the away end every week, though.’
‘We pressed well, knocked it around well without creating anything aside from striking the post, kept Newcastle quiet and took the sting out of them. To be honest Newcastle played right into our hands, they lacked any tempo and just looked so pedestrian it was untrue, they made it easy for us to dictate the pace. ‘
‘50 years a Town fan and I have to say I can’t remember a more impressive result. I’m absolutely buzzing, proud of the team, proud of the Coach, proud of the Chairman and proud of the amazing fans. Well done everybody.’
‘9.8/10 weekend. Great away day, weekend up in the north east, ale and lots of it, a convincing town performance by every single player, a deserved late winner to make the crowd go COMPLETELY NUTS, singing along with 3200 legends for 90mins,watching datm’s henry chianski ordering a pitcher of blue lagoon with a gin and tonic and baileys chaser at 11am in a Geordie weatherspoons…sometimes spending an obscene amount of money watching town away pays off…’
‘Sat in the Newcastle end as my mate got me a ticket to sit with him but was very jealous of you lot in the away end. You were brilliant, completely out sung Newcastle! ‘
‘Was sat in the toon fans. Jesus they were quiet. Wanted to get a video of the town following who were terrific but directly above me. Waiting for my train back now. Quality result. Unbelievable town. Thought shelvey was their best player and just chatting some toon fans in the AR at the station who hate his guts. Bizarre.’
‘Ant and Dec! Cheryl Cole! Mark Knopfler! Sting! Alan Shearer! Ross Noble! Chris Waddle! YOUR BOYS JUST TOOK ONE HELL OF A BEATING!!!!!’
‘Not much to say as off in the Toon for a beer but this was no fluke. We controlled the game and they created nothing. Easy win.’
“Where is Huddersfield ” the deluded Geordies asked ?
I can you exactly where it is – opposite end of the table, and 6 points above you!!’
‘I’ve nothing against Newcastle fans, they’ve got a rotten owner but still have loyal fans..it’s a great city and a fine club..just a shame their team hasn’t been all that good.’
‘Heart was racing, weak at the knees. imagine if you were playing. Team showed a lot of balls to keep composure after the penalty and 2nd half pressure. In front of 50,000 people and Rafa chucking million pound players on.’
