Earlier today, Turkish media reported that Cheick Tiote was en route to Istanbul.
It was stated that the Newcastle midfielder was on a plane which would land 2.30pm local time (4.30pm UK).
The trip is to enable Cheick Tiote to sign for Galatasaray before the transfer deadline, with the Turkish club looking to work their way back to the upper reaches after dropping from Champions in 2014/15 to sixth place last season, a massive 28 points behind title winners Besiktas.
Tiote has duly arrived in Istanbul and images have appeared (see below) of him being met by media and Galatasaray officials at the airport.
A transfer fee of around £1.2m has been speculated, with the player having only 10 months of his Newcastle contract remaining.
Cheick Tiote is clearly not in Rafa Benitez’ plans and hasn’t made any of the six matchday squads this season, even when Rafa put out almost an entirely changed team for the Cheltenham League Cup match.
Saturday saw the Ivory Coast international once again conspicuous by his absence as Newcastle beat Brighton 2-0.
