3-0 down 4-3 up and a Steven Taylor own goal…what a debut!
A very bizarre debut for Steven Taylor as he kicks off his American adventure.
Playing for Portland Timbers 2 who play in the United Soccer League, which is the third tier of football in America, it took less than nine minutes for the former Newcastle defender to make his mark.
The match was away against LA Galaxy 2 and in the ninth minute a ball was played across from the right hand side, Steven Taylor meeting the cross and diverting it into his own net (watch it below) to open the scoring.
Worse was to follow as Steven Taylor and his new defensive team-mates conceded another two goals before half-time, to leave Portland trailing 3-0.
After 66 minutes Taylor was eventually subbed and then there was the most amazing turnaround…
Within a minute Portland pulled a goal back and then remarkably added two more, including one with only three minutes left on the clock. At 3-3 the final seconds of injury time saw Steven Taylor’s new team-mates then grab a sensational winner.
The result was all the more extraordinary as LA Galaxy 2 started the game second top, whilst Portland Timbers 2 were bottom.
