Wijnaldum talks about Liverpool move and Jurgen Klopp
After signing for Liverpool for £25m, Gini Wijnaldum claims that the chance to work with ‘a great man’ like Jurgen Klopp was a major reason for his move.
As well as looking forward to working with his new manager, the former PSV Captain says that he hopes to emulate former Liverpool fans favourite Dirk Kuyt.
Newcastle fans will be amused to hear Wijnaldum declare ‘Supporters appreciate it when you’re trying to work hard for the team..’, an interesting comment considering how anonymous the midfielder was in so many games last season, plus not scoring a single goal away from home.
On bare statistics Liverpool could have got a bargain IF the player can progress after grabbing 11 goals and 5 assists for a relegated team.
The jury is out on Tyneside and Liverpool fans appeared just as sceptical in comments we published earlier.
Wijnaldum now flies out to join his new Liverpool team-mates in America, the scousers having visited Alcatraz earlier today as part of their pre-season tour. The midfielder now released from the trauma of being in his Tyneside prison (read HERE)….
Wijnaldum speaking to official Liverpool website – comparisons with Dirk Kuyt:
“He deserved it at that time because he worked – he always works hard.
“It doesn’t matter where you put him on the field, he works hard.
“Supporters appreciate it when you’re trying to work hard for the team and that’s what I have to do also.”
On Jurgen Klopp:
“A great man, from the outside, because I don’t know how he works yet and I have to work with him.
“ I always love to watch him, his passion as a trainer, I like how he enjoys the game. He gives something back to the group, so I look forward to working with him.”
