Siem de Jong : 3 years, 4 Premier League starts, 11 injuries – knackered again
Siem de Jong injured.
I am sure a lot of people think it is just part of his name…
Yes, our bargain signing from Ajax has picked up his 11th injury in under three years.
The Dutch midfielder ‘stretching to keep the ball in play’…what on earth were Rafa and his coaching staff doing letting Siem de Jong attempt such a dangerous manoeuvre!
Anyway, he has now done his hamstring once again and been sent home from Ireland, already expected to be unavailable for the first Championship match in three weeks time.
Every sympathy for Siem de Jong but really, what on earth were Newcastle doing taking a gamble on a player who had all sorts of injury problems in the season before they bought him?
Five separate major problems in the 2013/14 season, including a thigh muscle strain, collapsed lung (Pneumothorax) and (three!!) hamstring injuries.
Interesting that since arriving at Newcastle, amongst his injuries Siem de Jong has had a collapsed lung, thigh muscle strain and a problem with his hamstring….little wonder we have seen only four league starts in two years on Tyneside.
