Rival’s disbelief as Newcastle buy one of ‘Bournemouth’s best players’ & Gayle ‘can be unstoppable’

The signings of Matt Ritchie and Dwight Gayle made a lot of people sit up and take notice, nobody more so than Andy Ritchie.

Now working in a media capacity covering both Leeds and Manchester United, Andy Ritchie scored over 200 goals in his career for those two clubs and a handful of others, including Oldham where he became a legend during their glory days in the top division.

Reflecting on the transfer business so far, Andy Ritchie is astounded at the players Newcastle have managed to bring in from the Premier League.

Describing Dwight Gayle as a ‘match-winner’, the former Leeds favourite says that when the striker is ‘bang at it, he can be unstoppable’.

It is with Matt Ritchie though, that namesake Andy really is impressed with Newcastle’s transfer business.

Andy Ritchie says he ‘actually can’t believe’ that Bournemouth wanted to let the winger go, with the Scottish international ‘one of their best players in the last few seasons’.

Whilst it all depends on what the new signings and the rest of the squad do once the season kicks off, it is reassuring to hear neutrals connected to rival Championship clubs reacting so positively to what Rafa Benitez has done/is doing.

Andy Ritchie talking to the Yorkshire Evening Post:

“It is at the time of year now when deals start to get done. At the higher end, the fact that the Euros are still on has maybe stymied a few people, but things are now happening in the Championship.

“Leeds obviously needed a striker. But let’s face it, they need a few other players too in a few other places.

“One or two are making their moves. Look at Newcastle United with Matt Ritchie. I actually can’t believe that Bournemouth wanted to let him go as he has been one of their best players in the last few seasons.

“Newcastle have also made a move for Dwight Gayle at Crystal Palace and on his day, he can be a match-winner and he has a real eye for goal and when he is bang at it, he can be unstoppable.”
