Difficult to imagine how Rafa Benitez could improve on his standing with Newcastle fans but he might have just managed it with his personal tribute to the victims of the MH17 tragedy/outrage.
Sunday 17 July 2016 is two years to the day when tragically hundreds of people lost their lives when the MH17 plane was brought down, with Liam Sweeney and John Alder amongst the victims.
The two dedicated Newcastle fans were on their way to New Zealand to watch the team play in friendly matches prior to the season kicking off.
Rafa taking time out to make this personal tribute via his own website:
‘With Alder and Sweeney in our memories
“Today, Sunday 17th July, my thoughts are with the families of our fans John Alder and Liam Sweeney, who lost their lives following the club that they loved in pre-season two years ago.
“They are in the hearts of so many people at this club.
“Come on Toons!!!”
