The Newcastle team v Fulham to get United off to perfect start

Here is the Newcastle team v Fulham that can bring three points away from Craven Cottage.

Whilst the next 11 days will no doubt see more ins and outs at Newcastle United, we can now start to piece together the kind of team that will start off our Championship campaign.

The defence looks to have a settled look, although Grant Hanley will no doubt be in contention once he gets up to full fitness.

Sels has played the most minutes so far in pre-season friendlies and then Lascelles, Mbemba and Janmaat have the next highest – I think these four are nailed on to start and would be my choice as well.

Jesus Gamez would complete my defence, the right footed full-back having filled in there successfully for Atletico Madrid.

Matt Ritchie missed Lokeren on Saturday but Rafa says he is only missing a couple of days and will surely be one of the first names on the team sheet, whilst on the other side Rolando Aarons is also getting plenty of time pre-season and would be my choice, even if Florian Thauvin doesn’t move on.

Middle of the pitch I would go for the experienced Shelvey and Colback, though Isaac Hayden should hopefully be putting pressure on that duo. Cheick Tiote has only had around 30 minutes in the friendlies and is surely on his way out.

Up front, the absence of Aleksandar Mitrovic through suspension opens the way for a more mobile pairing of Gayle and Perez.

Gayle has looked sharp so far and Ayoze Perez with three goals in his last 50 minutes (Doncaster and Lokeren) is reaping the benefits of a more forward role through the middle.
