Newcastle linked with move for Conor Coady – Reports

Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Conor Coady, currently on the books of Wolves.

The 23 year old defensive midfielder is said to be interesting QPR, Sheffield Wednesday and Newcastle United, amongst others.

Not sure exactly why Newcastle would be looking for yet another defensive midfielder with the likes of Colback, Tiote, Saivet and Hayden already at the club…

Rafa Benitez did have Conor Coady at Liverpool as a kid as he came up through the ranks but the Newcastle boss had been left three years, before the player had his only taste of Premier League football for Liverpool as a late sub.

The only other first team appearance coming in the Europa League as a 19 year old.

A (2013/14) season out on loan at Sheffield United was then followed by a £500,000 move to Huddersfield, before then a year later shifting on to Wolves for £2m.

Whilst Conor Coady has 82 appearances in the Championship over the course of the last two seasons, the whole suggestion looks very dubious as centre midfield looks the place that is least in need of strengthening at Newcastle (apart from goalkeeper possibly…), unless it was a far better quality than what United already have, which doesn’t appear to be the case.

The claims of Newcastle interest have come from Talksport and maybe no surprise that it has coincided with an appearance on the radio station by Cody’s agent, James Lippett, who said:

“Conor has been outstanding over the past two seasons in the Championship.

“I have no idea why he has suddenly fallen down the pecking order at Wolves, but I’m sure that there will be good clubs that will want Conor if Wolves do not.”
