Aleksandar Mitrovic ‘Amazing feeling at the moment to be a Newcastle player’

There appears to be no common ground, with Aleksandar Mitrovic maybe the most extreme example.

His positive comments about being a Newcastle player, even in the Championship, are in direct contrast to those of the likes of Wijnadlum, Townsend and Sissoko. All three of those just desperate to tell the world why it was so important for THEM, as to why they had/have to desert Newcastle United.

Only one thing for sure, no point in keeping people when their hearts aren’t in it.

As for Mitrovic, when he says that the ‘fans are just brilliant’, you know he really means it. The Serbian says that Newcastle now honestly makes him feel like he is ‘back in my home country’.

Describing this present time as giving him ‘an amazing feeling at the moment to be a Newcastle player’, Mitrovic believes this special bond between ‘fans and the club’ is the foundation for so much more.

The former Anderlecht striker says that this is why he signed for Newcastle and indeed ‘the reason I want to be a footballer’.

Mitrovic will be like a caged tiger as he sees out his four game suspension but if can harness that passion and build on a decent first season in English football, he should be a major player in Newcastle’s promotion drive.

Aleksandar Mitrovic talking to the Chronicle:

“I feel like I am at home: a nice city, the people are nice and it’s a big club.

The fans are just brilliant. I honestly feel like I am just back in my home country.

“The fans here are very special and the people here want to talk to you in the city about the team and football. That is their passion.

“We need to keep the bond good between the fans and the club this season, it is an amazing feeling at the moment to be a Newcastle player.

“It is why I signed here, and the reason I want to be a footballer – I enjoy every day in training and each game I play.

“I hope to give back a lot of the love from the fans with goals, we have a good relationship and I hope that continues this season.

“I want us to get promoted and for everybody to enjoy it as a group, the fans and players – I hope I can get goals in the Championship, I will certainly be giving my best.

“The most important thing is we go up, we play good football and we win games – if we play good football I know I will score goals.

“It will be more games and will be difficult but we are already preparing our minds for that.

“We have to make sure we have got a good mentality and prepare right for every game – we have to make sure we get the results we want.”
