Two Newcastle strikers set to be missing at the start of the season

There are set to be two Newcastle strikers missing when the Championship kicks off on the weekend of Saturday 6 August.

Saturday has brought news that Adam Armstrong has picked up a muscle injury whilst on England duty.

The Chronicle say that their information is that the 19 year old Geordie picked up the injury in Mexico when away with the England Under 19 squad.

Armstrong is almost certain to miss the Under 19 European Championships in Germany which kick off on the day after (Monday 11 July) the senior European Championships end, the Under 19 version lasting for two weeks and the final on Sunday 24 July.

Adam Armstrong is also believed to be then struggling for the start of the season.

This news comes on top of fact that Aleksandar Mitrovic is already guaranteed to miss the first four Championship games due to the stupid red card he picked up during the 5-1 win over Tottenham.

With the club surely going to do everything they can to get rid of the hopeless Emmanuel Riviere this summer, as well as Papiss Cisse who has only one year of his contract left, it means Ayoze Perez is looking potentially the only current striker that will be fit to start the season.

Rafa Benitez said recently that he didn’t need to tell Newcastle fans which positions were in desperate need of strengthening and fingers crossed that at least two more goalscoring strikers are added as soon as possible so they can take part in pre-season.

Wednesday sees the EFL (English Football League) reveal next season’s fixtures and who is on live TV on that first weekend (Saturday 6 August), with players returning for pre season only six days later (Tuesday 28 June).
