Sunderland fixtures give clues to Newcastle schedule

Along with the rest of the Premier League, the Sunderland fixtures were released on Wednesday morning.

The opening PL weekend sees the mackems getting beat at Manchester City and no doubt our Sunderland friends will be praying that Newcastle get Burton Albion up first, just to emphasise exactly at what respective levels the two clubs will be competing come August.

Newcastle fans have to wait for next Wednesday (22 June) for the Championship schedule but in the meantime, there are a few clues given by the Sunderland fixtures.

With Sunderland away on the first Premier League weekend (Saturday 13 August) of the season, it is fair to assume that Newcastle will be at home that weekend.

Taking that to a logical conclusion, it looks nailed on that on the first Championship weekend of the season (Saturday 6 August), United will kick off their campaign away from home.

Two other dates of special interest see the Mackems away on 26 December (Man Utd) and 31 December (Burnley), so when it comes to the festive season it looks like decent news for Newcastle fans with games set to be at St James Park on Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve.
