Newcastle United are interested in signing former Ayoze Perez team-mate Nano according to claims from Spain this morning.

AS report that Newcastle are looking at the 21 year striker after his breakthrough season with Tenerife.

Nano score 14 goals in 20 starts (plus 15 as sub), goalscoring form which led to him being voted player of the season by the Tenerife supporters.

In 2013/14 Ayoze Perez had a similar year when he scored 16 goals in the Spanish second tier, which led to his move to Tyneside.

Whilst Nano is said to be open to signing another contract at Tenerife, it looks certain he will leave this summer. As well as Newcastle’s interest, a number of Spanish clubs have also been watching the player, including Deportivo la Coruna and Real Betis from La Liga.

AS report the player as having a buyout clause of 3m euros (approx £2.3m), a fee only a little higher than that which brought Ayoze Perez to Newcastle.

The pair did play a few times together in Perez’ final (2013/14) season on Tyneside and whilst you would imagine that if any deal did happen, Nano would be one for the future. The fact is that the same was said about Perez and yet he came straight into the Premier League and featured in 36 of Newcastle’s 38 games in 2014/15.

Whether or not this transfer story has real substance or not, it looks assured that we will hear plenty of other links with Spanish players in the coming weeks and months, due to Rafa Benitez’ knowledge and contacts in his home country.
