Rafa Benitez looking for three things in Newcastle signings
Rafa Benitez has revealed the three things he is looking for when bringing in new players this summer.
The Newcastle Manager wants to see players with ‘passion, commitment and quality’.
Arguably Newcastle United have had players in recent seasons with those qualities, only very few of them have had all three.
Whilst the likes of Dummett, Colback and even Steve Taylor, could be seen to have passion and commitment, when it comes to quality, certainly in the Premier League, they are found wanting.
When it comes to players lacking passion and commitment, though possibly having the quality, there are far too many to mention – though Moussa Sissoko is maybe worthy of special mention.
There is of course that other group of players who lack all three qualities and that is why Newcastle are ending up with so many players, who are seeing their contracts out at St James Park with little/zero interest from other clubs.
When asked about his current players wanting to leave, Rafa Benitez says that he has had ‘more players telling me that they want to stay’.
Whether that is confirmation that some of United’s stars have already made clear they intend to leave, who knows. Though I think we can all be pretty certain that there will be some who will be looking to jump ship after finding themselves stuck in the Championship , through no fault of their own…well that is what these individuals will think anyway.
Rafa Benitez is also looking for ‘passion, commitment and quality’ from his current group of players and it is an invaluable advantage that he has already spent several months at Newcastle United, so no doubt he has all their cards marked by now, whether it is positive or negative.
Rafa Benitez speaking to the Chronicle:
“I have been asked about players wanting to leave but I have had more players telling me that they want to stay – that is positive.
“So we will deal with them and the main thing is we need players with passion, commitment and quality to make a difference in the Championship.”
