A month ago, the media in Belgium claimed that Chancel Mbemba and Aleksandar Mitrovic were set for a summer return to the country, to play a friendly against Sporting Lokeren.

Now Newcastle United have confirmed on Saturday morning that the friendly will be part of their pre-season schedule.

Newcastle have previously faced the Belgian club, having won 4-0 away in the Intertoto Cup 15 years ago, then beating them 1-0 at St James Park.

The game will place on Saturday 23 July with a 4.30pm (local time) kick-off, exactly two weeks before the Championship is due to kick off.

The club say that ticket details will be released in due course and the friendly follows on from news of others against Bohemians, Doncaster and Vitesse Arnhem.

Full details of those games and the full Championship schedule can be found HERE.
