Newcastle are leading the race to sign Jose Naranjo according to reports on Thursday.
Naranjo is yet another striker in the second tier of Spanish football to be linked with a move to Tyneside.
The 21 year old scored 16 goals in only 29 league starts (plus 7 as a sub) in the season just ended and Spanish Radio station Cadena Cope say that their information is that Newcastle are the player’s most likely destination, with NUFC ahead of the likes of Aston Villa and La Liga sides Real Betis & Celta Vigo.
A versatile player who can play either on the wing or up front, Jose Naranjo is on the books of Gimnastic de Tarragona (usually shortened to Nastic) but has a 3m euros (approx £2.3m) release clause.
Cadena Cope report that Rafa Benítez has given the go ahead for Newcastle United officials to try and complete the deal and make the striker one of his first Newcastle signings.
Rafa Benitez confirmed in recent days that he had appointed an administrator at the club who was fluent in Spanish and French, as well as English, to help new signings with their life off the pitch, so they can concentrate on playing football.
Whether or not Jose Naranjo is a transfer target of any substance, Newcastle under Rafa Benitez look set to keep on looking for talent and value beyond these shores.
