Newcastle fan who brought down Mitrovic has banning order temporarily lifted
When Aleksandar Mitrovic scored with seven minutes remaining against Sunderland, a number of things happened.
Around 95% of the crowd celebrated, Mitrovic stripped his shirt off, then as he ran away to enjoy the moment…out of nowhere a Newcastle supporter appeared and as he ran towards the striker, he slipped and taking avoidance action Mitrovic tumbled to the ground.
Newcastle fan John West of Durham later pleaded guilty at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court to encroaching onto the playing area.
The 35 year old supporter was fined £240, with £85 in costs, John West then returned in May to hear that he had also been given a football banning order.
The banning order also means that as well as missing Newcastle matches, he couldn’t go abroad during the Euros in case he ended up over in France.
However, the courts have shown leniency and allowed John West to have a temporary lifting of the ban in order to travel to his brother’s stag do in Benidorm from June 29 to 3 July.
