Newcastle have made contact with Reading to enquire about midfielder Danny Williams, according to reports this morning.

The 27 year old midfielder has a year left on his contract and has played for the last three seasons in the Championship, following a £1.6m move from Bundesliga club Hoffenheim.

Williams was born in Germany but plays international football for the United States (20 caps), his father serving in the US military in Germany and so he has dual citizenship.

The Mail claim that Sunderland and Aston Villa have also both made contact with Reading, with the player expected to move on this summer after deciding where his future best lies.

The two-footed player was at Freiburg with Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse early in his career, before moving on to Hoffenheim.

After a brief respite due to the fixtures release on Wednesday, no doubt the transfer speculation will be in full flow once again, especially with the now being only 43 days until Newcastle kick off against Fulham.
