Media claims that Newcastle want to buy back midfielder

Media claims have surfaced, suggesting Newcastle United are interesting in taking back midfielder Mehdi Abeid.

Newcastle sold the midfielder for a nominal fee to Panthinakos a year ago, a decision which left many United fans bemused as considering the weakness of the other midfield options, he looked a decent bet for a run in the team.

The latest claims of Newcastle interest come from O Jogo in Portugal, they say that along with Porto, United are showing interest in buying him this summer.

Like all transfer stories you make of them what you will but Mehdi Abeid did suggest in his limited game time for Newcastle, that he had the potential to be a decent player.

In Autumn 2014, Abeid played in the wins over Liverpool and Manchester City (League Cup), only to pick up an injury. The midfielder then never really given a proper chance once he got back to full fitness.

He spent the 2013/14 season on loan at Panathinaikos and was a real hit, scoring 10 goals from midfield and helping his on-loan club lift the Greek Cup.

After moving late last summer, Mehdi Abeid took a while to settle back in but has had a decent season, scoring four goals and helping Panathinaikos to finish second in the league, though that was a massive 30 points behind Olympiakos who won an incredible 28 of their 30 league matches.
