Liverpool maintain interest in Moussa Sissoko – Reports

Recent days have seen the focus shift from speculation as to whether the likes of Gini Wijnaldum and Moussa Sissoko will leave Newcastle.

Instead, we have enjoyed the talk and substance of who actually wants to come to St James Park, rather than jump ship after relegation.

Moussa Sissoko is also a case where once France are out of the Euros (Sunday at the earliest if losing to Iceland), speculation will intensify once again as to where he’ll be next season.

However, Thursday has seen L’Equipe claim that their information is that Liverpool have maintained their interest and made clear they are interested in taking the Newcastle midfielder to Merseyside.

After demanding that he has to leave to look after his own career, it is hard to see it being a positive relationship with either the rest of the Newcastle players or the fans, if Moussa Sissoko is still here when the Championship kicks off.

With over £25m set to be spent this week on Sels, Gayle and Ritchie, it looks inevitable that one or more of the players who will command a big transfer fee will go. Liverpool spending £34m on Sadio Mane has already put down a marker as to the kind of money they and other clubs will be splashing out on new additions in the coming weeks.

Sissoko has also made the news on another matter, with officials visiting the French training camp on Wednesday and selecting four players at random for a drug test, the other three being Kingsley Coman, Patrice Evra and Blaise Matuidi.
