What Crystal Palace fans have said about Dwight Gayle move to Newcastle – Interesting

Dwight Gayle looks set to move to Newcastle United, with claims of a £10m transfer fee being followed by reports of United now having allegedly agreed personal terms with the player.

As Andros Townsend looks increasingly likely to go the other way, what would Newcastle be getting if Dwight Gayle signs?

Not an awful lot to go on as the player was in non-league football after being released as a kid by Arsenal, eventually working his way back up through League Two and the Championship before making it into the Premier League.

On the plus side he does have an excellent scoring record through the league when it comes to league goals v starts, scoring 64 in 112 (plus 41 sub appearances).

For Palace it is a mixed bad as once again Gayle has a decent scoring ratio, 15 goals in 27 Premier League starts, although he has also came off the bench 37 times.

Never able to establish himself in the first team, Dwight Gayle has become a bit of an impact sub at Palace but obviously if he was dropped into the Championship as a regular starter you would think he would have every chance of getting amongst the goals.

Father's Day Cards -

What about the Crystal Palace fans who watch him? We went to their top message board for fans and this is what visitors to have had to say.

A mixed bag but overall very positive on the player, with a number of Palace supporters seeing this as a good deal for all parties.

‘Seems a high fee but if I were Newcastle I’d feel confident that he could score the goals for promotion, so it’s a great deal for them. He’ll rip up the Championship but will have to make big improvements to his all-round game if he wants to be their star back in the Prem.’

‘Absolutely gutted and a little bit pi**ed off….if true. We wasted three years of his career, poor guy.

Happy for him though. Hope with everything (and fully expect) him to win Golden boot at Newcastle, then come up and rub it in our faces in the prem.

A truly outstanding, natural goalscorer…who we never took advantage of.’

‘I was not his biggest fan, but he never had a decent run of games to show what he might be able to do. I think he will do well for them, especially with the excellent Rafa in charge.’

‘Adebayor was for the hell of it. Could of put that money to a lot better use. Gayle has the best scoring record at Palace.’

‘I personally rate Dwight Gayle and would be disappointed to see him leave but £10m plus seems like good value. It’s a big risk selling him unless we have someone else lined up, which is assume/hope we do.’

‘Bloody hell I hope we are close to signing his replacement. Having said that, he clearly isn’t part of our first team plans. In a 442 he’ll shine, but if and when NUFC get promoted you wonder if he’ll disappear again. Good luck “little” man.’

‘A good deal all round. All the very best Dwight.’

‘I think we should bar the sale of certain players until we know Pardew is definitely staying. If the board are thinking if he (Pardew) starts as he finished last season then he’s gone by Christmas, it makes no sense to sell decent players.

Players like Gayle and anyone else that were a victim of Pardew’s strict starting 11 policy (which was basically if you are in my starting 11 then unless you’re dead you aren’t leaving despite form) could fit right into a new manager’s plans.’

‘Be fair, it’s not like he (Dwight Gayle) was a regular and banging them in before Pardew.

None of the managers who have had him at the club since Holloway have seen him as a crucial part of their starting XI.’

‘Arguably Pardew has done more to accommodate him than most of the other managers, trying him on the wing and constantly saying that he’s our best finisher etc.’

‘Gayle needs to go while he still has this sort of value. He’s been ok in spells but we need to move on. Get rid.’

‘If Pards isn’t going to play him and we can get £10M then it’s a deal to be done. Townsend coming in the other direction would be good.’

‘26 in Oct and people still say he’s young and give him time etc. He’s been here a good while and no manager has built the team around him. Must say something. He’s a good finisher but there is not much else about him i don’t think.

He can’t play up front on his own and that is basically our tactics isn’t it, playing one up front. If we can get back what we paid for him then we should defiantly be taking it.

He will bang in a few goals in the Championship so will be worth the fee for Newcastle or someone else.’

‘10m quid, I’d drive him there myself, if it’s true, and it’d be a good move for him.’

‘So the main headline is Gayle to Newcastle for 10 million and the other one is we buy Berahino for 7?

Would be the best deal since the yanks bought London Bridge.’

‘Pardew is dismantling the squad and getting rid of players he doesn’t like and buying players on inflated wages. Big trouble.’
