Alan Shearer has given his opinion on Moussa Sissoko.

The Newcastle legend (Shearer not Sissoko…) believes that the Newcastle midfielder did himself the power of good in the France v Switzerland match on Sunday night.

The game was a shocker but Alan Shearer thought that Sissoko was ‘brilliant’ and used his strength against the Swiss, making a number of runs down the right.

Shearer says that he wants to see more of this from the midfielder and Thierry Henry agreed, saying that he had seen some similarly promising displays for Newcastle United ‘but not enough’ of them.

Moussa Sissoko was making his first start for France in over a year and was one of many changes as Deschamps put out an almost totally different midfield and attack.

L’Equipe rated Sissoko as their man of the match but whether it is enough to see him keep his place in the knockout stages remains to be seen.

Alan Shearer talking post-match on the BBC:

“Moussa Sissoko was brilliant – big and strong. He knocked them (opposition players) off down that right-hand side.”

“I would like to see more of that from Sissoko.”

Thierry Henry:

“We saw some games like that from him at Newcastle but not enough.”

Moussa Sissoko also talking after the game:

“I am happy with my performance but I could have done better, like everyone else.

“I am very proud to have started this match and I hope that I will have the chance between now and the end of the competition to be in the starting eleven again.

“If that is not the case then l will give my best to bring something extra to the team.”
