Reports this morning that three Newcastle players are set for a recall on Sunday and start the game against Tottenham.
The three in question are the fit again Daryl Janmaat, Aleksandar Mitrovic who has only started the Southampton away game in the last eight weeks, plus Ayoze Perez whose last start was away at Liverpool last month.
The Shields Gazette report that all three are set for a recall in what could be a much changed line-up for this final game of the season.
In years gone by, you would have taken for granted that the likes of Pardew, Carver and McClaren would have done as they were told regarding team selection or indeed anything else Mike Ashley ordered them to do.
At least with Rafa Benitez we can be assured that he would resist any such attempts by the club hierarchy
It will be ironic though that if Newcastle grabbed the headlines with a surprise stellar performance and win against Tottenham, it would only surely increase the attention that our handful of decent players will attract in this summer’s transfer market.
Every Newcastle fan is currently wondering which players will be pushing most for a move this summer, whilst if Rafa leaves and the club is allowed to fall into total disarray once again, it would be hard to imagine any player turning down the chance of escaping if a credible club bids for them.
So much is riding on Rafa Benitez staying and if he does, it will pretty much take care of everything else, as supporters will believe that he he’s only agreed to do so on the understanding of having freedom to operate and that he will have the right backing in place.
Personally, I’m happy for any player to be sold off BUT only if Rafa is then given a fitting budget to build his own team.
