Sunday was my first Newcastle match after 24 years as a fan – Thank You!
I have been a Newcastle fan since 1992 or thereabouts.
Over in Finland, the only football we got on the television besides the World Cup and European Championships, was the English league.
Each Saturday me and my brothers would watch the games, usually showing Liverpool or Manchester United.
Somehow though I became a Newcastle fan, probably because of Peter Beardsley and the attacking style of Kevin Keegan’s team.
Sunday was my first time at Newcastle and St James Park.
My brother is a Spurs fan and we decided back in March that we would do this trip, maybe there would be something at stake still in the game.
Well, Leicester ran away with the league title and we were relegated, so we didn’t know what to expect of the game.
What a game, and even more, what an atmosphere.
I want to thank everybody for singing so that my ears ring and making my day perfect.
I can’t think of a reason for Rafa Benitez to leave after that game, that was special!
(Always very interesting to hear of what it is like for Newcastle supporters following the club from afar, especially those mad people who have chosen to, rather than those who of us who have no choice and are born into it.
At the weekend we had an excellent article from a New Zealand based NUFC fan, the article getting a lot of great feedback, read it HERE)
