Startling – Evidence of what would have happened if Rafa Benitez was given more time

So what would have happened if Rafa Benitez had been recruited a little/lot earlier.

Well have a look at this table below and just think what might have been.

If only the clowns owning and running Newcastle United had heard the same alarm bells ringing over the course of the weeks and months under Steve McClaren.

Surely not a single fan would have given him the 28 games he was given before Rafa Benitez was given an all but impossible job.

Only 10 games and Rafa had to deal with a visit to Champions Leicester and a derby against the Mackems in his first week at work.

After taking four matches to get his feet under the table and work out what he had to work with, the change has been startling.

As you can see, in the recent form table below, only Southampton and Leicester have done better and indeed only the Saint have actually accumulated more points in the last half dozen matches.

Rafa has three wins and three draws which works out at two points a game and 76 over the course of a season…

A bit of a leap to suggest Newcastle would have sustained quite that level of points long-term but certainly I think the evidence is there to tell us all that only even a few more matches would have made a difference.

Especially the fact Rafa would have met the vital games against Sunderland and Norwich armed with far more knowledge of his players and the team in a much better condition to get results in those matches.
