In Rafa we trust but what about the rest of them at St James Park?

Sometimes, when you are repeatedly told there is nothing to worry about, all you can do is…worry.

As Newcastle fans we have been left holding our breath as we wait to see whether we will be allowed to enjoy our brief summer break.

Less than 11 weeks now until the Championship kicks off and it is simply a case of will he or won’t he?

We are of course talking about Rafa Benitez, imagine trying to explain to somebody who knows and cares nothing about football, how the career decision of some Spanish bloke you have never met will decide whether you can enjoy the summer.

Difficult to remember the last summer we could really enjoy, when taking into account the Newcastle United influence, certainly since the one after promotion.

Summer 2012 following the fifth place finish may have started full of anticipation of how it was going to be built on, only for it to be like one of those dodgy building firms where it dawns on you that after paying your money up front they actually aren’t going to come back and finish the job off…

Only Vurnon Anita was brought in that summer and Newcastle ended up only surviving after winning their final away match of the season.

This time around it basically revolves around Mike Ashley satisfying Rafa Benitez, or not.

If Rafa stays then we are all confident of everything else then coming together, otherwise everything will just look like an accident waiting to happen.

Amusingly, all the usual speculation about players arriving or leaving is pushed to one side, we all know that everything else is meaningless until we find out whether Mike Ashley has at last accepted he has to employ a Manager to do the job.

In Rafa we trust but what about the rest of them at St James Park?
