Aston Villa boss: ‘Newcastle United have exceptional players with an exceptional manager’

Aston Villa stand-in boss Eric Black expects to be missing four players for Saturday’s game against Newcastle United.

Caretaker Black says that Jordan Veretout, Rudy Gestede and Kieran Richardson are all serious doubts for Villa’s last home game of the season, whilst Aly Cissokho definitely misses the match as is suspended after his red card last weekend.

As for the visitors to Aston Villa on Saturday, Eric Black says ‘Newcastle have exceptional players with an exceptional manager’.

Newcastle fans would agree with at least half of that statement…

Pessimists will see Villa failing to beat Watford as simply making it more likely they will at last avoid defeat on the 12th attempt tomorrow – but Black maybe indicates just what a crushing blow it was to their morale last weekend.

Leading 2-1 against Watford at the end of 90 minutes, such is the fragile nature of Aston Villa that they managed to find a way to still lose the game 3-2 in injury time.

Eric Black:

“Jordan Veretout is struggling with a pelvic problem whilst Rudy Gestede has an issue with his groin.

“Kieran Richardson is still struggling with his calf. They are all serious doubts for the weekend.

“Newcastle United have exceptional players with an exceptional manager who has managed at the highest level.

“It’s important this club get the right manager, however long it takes. It’s worth waiting for.

“The Watford performance gives me encouragement – but not getting the win was difficult to take.

“We have to ensure more of the same performance-wise on Saturday and give something back to the fans.”
