A big day for Rob Elliot yesterday, as the Newcastle United goalkeeper went under the knife to sort out the cruel injury he suffered when away on international duty.

Playing for Ireland against Slovakia, Elliot collapsed in agony as he twisted his knee when trying to change direction and the operation to sort the Anterior Cruciate Ligament, was the first stage of getting him back in a Newcastle shirt

After coming around from the operation, Rob Elliot was putting a positive spin on the situation and used his Twitter account to put those positives messages, as well as thanking Newcastle fans who had sent him good luck messages.

Rob Elliot:

“Successful op.road to recovery starts here Thanks for all the messages.

“Wow morphine is some good stuff. Obv only in hospital after operations. Bad thing having to go back over all messages I sent…

“I asked to take some home. Didn’t go down well.”

With both Tim Krul and Rob Elliot set to miss the start of next season, it will be interesting to see how the club approach the goalkeeping situation, regardless of which division the club are in.

The start of next season is 13 August 2016 for the Premier League, or 6 August 2016 for that other place…

Turning 30 on the final day of this month, as a keeper Rob Elliot still has plenty years left to build on the potential of this first proper run in the Premier League.

The Newcastle goalkeeper also posted the picture below after coming around after the operation.
