As always, interested in what the opposition supporters made of the match on Saturday afternoon, so sought out the views of Norwich fans….
Fair to say some varied views but two underlying themes stick out in all of them – relief and elation.
Predictably, the two emotions that Newcastle fans aren’t experiencing.
A game that had five goals, including four in the final 20 minutes as Newcastle came back into the game but it wasn’t quite enough…
We searched out the reaction of the Norwich fans after the match, via various Canaries message boards:
‘What a game! After half a season of disappointment this comes along to remind me why I bother.’
‘So many great performances all over the pitch. We grafted for that & got what we deserved for a change.’
‘Still feel big, drunken Geordies? I love football sometimes.’
‘Great win City. I thought just before Olsson scored we were done for, BUT NO. Excellent 3 points and what fighting spirit was shown. We can get out of this yet.’
‘Miss of the season! Got to be. Andros Townsend cuts in from the right wing, and his low shot is only parried out to Papiss Cisse. It’s a tap in, he could get down and head it in. But he blazes it yards wide! Shocking…’
‘I thought at the time their first goal went off Bennett, and slo-mo seemed to confirm it to me, which was why it looped so much. Hadn’t realised our third was possibly handball, but it’s about time we had that bit of luck and I’m sure none of us could care less.’
‘Was quite surprised – Shearer (on Match of The Day) was quite impartial given he’s a hardcore Toon fan. I reckon as little as 2 more wins could do it with anything else a bonus to seal it. And I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if one of those wins comes against Man U.’
‘Shearer thought we deserved to win because they only played for 45 minutes. Chose to give credit to Naismith, probably because he was the only player he knew.
Our first goal was a “free” header. To say the goalkeeper should have saved Mbokani”s shot was ridiculous and he thought the third was a double handball, no question that it might be accidental. 2-0 to Newcastle in Shearer’s world.’
‘The passion and the unity of the group shone through. You can see the team spirit there. I hope they can take that into the Crystal Palace game and not follow these great results with a no show. A very winnable game, but a game I desperately want to see us pick up points. Newcastle vs Southampton, I hope Southampton put them to the sword.’
‘Thought it was hilarious that at when we get a free-kick in a decent area, at 0-0, in added time at the end of the first half, that the Newcastle fans decided not to give us the ball back, allowing Robbie Brady time to compose himself for the free kick, which he whipped in brilliantly and Klose scored from.’
‘I agree this is not over at all. Let’s hope even with Rafa and Mitrovic finding form that they have enough trouble to go down.’
