Michael Owen predicts Southampton v Newcastle

Michael Owen has been looking ahead to Newcastle’s trip to Southampton.

Our favourite multi-millionaire has predicted another wasted journey for those United fans travelling to the south coast.

Southampton played well but lost at Leicester in their last game, though this followed wins at home to Liverpool and away at Stoke.

Sitting in seventh place, the Saints saw their season get a massive lift when Fraser Forster returned from injury and promptly kept six clean sheets in a row – winning five and drawing one as they shot up the table.

How Newcastle could do with that kind of form and a keeper like Fraser Forster – a Geordie keeper, playing for England and now worth mega-bucks, shame Newcastle gave him away for a few million…

Michael Owen has also predicted defeats for Sunderland at home to Leicester and Norwich at Palace – but those would be of minimal help as Newcastle see the games slipping away.

To do the damage at St.Mary’s tomorrow, Michael Owen has pointed to Graziano Pelle.

The Italian striker has scored three of Southampton’s last five goals and made the other two.

He also has shown a previous liking for Newcastle and scored three of his 21 Premier League goals against United – one in the 2-2 draw at St James Park earlier this season and two in the 4-0 thrashing last season at St.Mary’s.

Interesting to see who Rafa Benitez selects to try and counter his aerial threat, though there again we always struggle against Shane Long’s pace as well…so dangers all over the place.

Let’s hope Newcastle can get on the front foot, rather than overly relying on a defence which is incapable of keeping clean sheets.

Michael Owen writing for BetVictor:

The Saints played well at the King Power Stadium last weekend and can get back to winning ways against a Newcastle side who have lost their last eight PL games on the road.

“Graziano Pelle has been involved in Saints’ last five PL goals either scoring (3) or assisting the other pair; he might be the difference.”
