Martin Keown verdict on Norwich v Newcastle

Martin Keown has looked at today’s Norwich v Newcastle game and sees nervous times ahead…

However, he sees the Canaries feeling the most pressure as the home team and Newcastle suffering a little less, despite only two wins in 16 away games this season and eight straight defeats on the road.

Describing it as a ‘game Norwich must not lose’, obviously the same surely applies for Newcastle.

However, after doing the hard bit last weekend and putting some distance between themselves and the north east pair, Norwich will kick themselves if they don’t effectively finish off Newcastle today.

After a couple of matches to find his feet and then an international break, Martin Keown says it is now the big test of Rafa Benitez in his first ever Premier League relegation battle.

Kweown expecting Rafa to pass this test…if his team hold their nerve.

Martin Keown writing in The Mail:

“This is a game Norwich must not lose but that creates a nervous mindset. For a game like this you have to prepare your mind as much as your body.

“Newcastle, who have now lost two goalkeepers after Rob Elliott joined Tim Krul on the sidelines, will still feel less pressure playing on the road and have to take the initiative. Rafa Benitez will get his team organised and now we’ll see how good he is as he’s not been in this position before.

“Norwich have to go for the jugular but I worry where the goals will come from. If they try to grind out a win that makes everybody nervy.

“They can’t sit deep and mop up Newcastle attacks, they have to have a go.

“Prediction? A nervous, but crucial, Newcastle win.”
