What Manchester City fans have been saying ahead of Newcastle match

Manchester City fans are looking forward to this game for vastly different reasons to Newcastle supporters.

Whilst United hope that they can build on the win against Swansea and get at least a valuable point in the fight against relegation, Manchester City fans are desperately hoping they can win to try and ensure they finish ahead of Manchester United and Arsenal for Champions League qualification.

Plus of course the small matter of this being part of the crucial build up to a Champions League semi-final date with Real Madrid in seven days time.

A number of themes appear to run through the thoughts of Manchester City fans:

Bad time to play Newcastle when desperately fighting relegation and just beating Swansea.

Wondering whether best to attack from start or sit back and counter-attack through likes of de Bruyne and Aguero.

Worries about who should and shouldn’t play with Real Madrid ahead.

It doesn’t matter who plays for either team and Newcastle beating Swansea is meaningless, Manchester City are good and Newcastle are rubbish, so the visitors will win regardless.

We searched out the reaction of the Manchester City fans ahead of the match, via one of their top message boards at BlueMoon:

‘Playing the way we are I’m really looking forward to it. Hopefully some early goals then rest KDB and Aguero. I think it’ll be tough though.’

‘Take De Bruyne and Aguero off if we get into a position where the match is won. Need to win this and keep confidence up ahead of the Champions League.’

‘I’d play a strong team tonight and then rotate for Stoke. Tonight’s a good warm up a week out from the (Real Madrid) game.’

‘Looking forward to this tonight, back to enjoying watching us.’

‘Oh forgot, not that it’s something we want to think about, especially at this point… but having won the capital one cup- we are already at least in the Europa next season.’

‘We’re down to the bare bones again and most worryingly it’s all our creative players. I think we have a good headache in defence though. I think they’ve finally clicked so I wouldn’t throw Kompany in especially on a cold Newcastle night game.’

They need the points and they have a lot of hope after their last game, it won’t be the walkover it may have been, start with our strongest team and hope no new injuries.’

‘Newcastle need to win and will have to come at us…If we counter like we did against Chelsea we will smash them.’

‘I think we will win comfortably if we set up to counter attack and let them come on to us. Whether Pellegrini gives Newcastle sufficient credit to set up in that way is the key.’

‘I disagree that we should play on the counter. We should look to control possession and the game, keep their fans quiet and give them nothing to play for. It’s a huge game for Newcastle and we need to take the sting out of it by limiting their time on the ball and in our half.’

‘There’s a possibility we feel fairly confident of a win and decide to rest a few players… not many, but just enough to lose a bit of our edge. We go into the game expecting to win with our slightly weakened team and with players who are nervous of getting injured for the CL games.

Then we have Newcastle buoyed by their Swansea result and playing for their PL survival. We should win this game, but complacency is our enemy as it has been too many times this season. We should stop going into games assuming we will win, but go into them expecting to win if we give 100%.’

‘Newcastle are sh*t, they need the win, they’re nervous. We’ll pull them apart.’

‘It will be tense I think as Newcastle will desperately want to get something from the game. I think we’ll nick a one nil win with KDB getting it and dragging us over the line.’

‘All the comments about Newcastle being rubbish miss the point. Yes they have been rubbish for 95% of the season, but these teams (Villa apart) can play like supermen at this time of the season. Suddenly they realise what’s at stake and there are no other games to follow.’

‘I’d like them to stay up but I hope we absolutely batter them.’

‘Just don’t get the Bulling up of Newcastle. Even if they’re bang at it, I still expect us to be too good for them. That’s not meaning to be arrogant. Also most times we have a sh*t record against someone (Liverpool), it gets bought up.

Why’s no one bringing up all the stats and facts that favour us. Because this is one team we DO KNOW how to beat.’

‘Will be a tough game. They are fighting for their Premier League lives. The more open the game, the better for us I’d say.’

‘Awful time to play Newcastle. They’ll be bang up for this.’

‘Why? They’ve lost 6 of their last 8 games, including getting battered by the team we just battered. They can be as up for it as they want, they are still sh*t.’

‘I’m going out on a limb here and don’t care if anyone thinks this statement is a jinx. Any time is a good time to play Newcastle. I watched their game yesterday and they are sh*t. How they won 3 – 0 is one of football’s great mysteries.’

‘Maybe Newcastle will collapse under the pressure, but give them some hope and they will cling on to it.’

‘We’ve got to beat them pretty easily, they are awful. One (pretty lucky) win against an equally awful Swansea side who have nothing left to play for doesn’t change that.’

‘Don’t think it will be easy with Rafa’s tactics but should have enough to win the game.’

‘Newcastle will be up for this after yesterday (Swansea) but in truth we should blow them away. They’re never good in defence and are always prone to errors. Another Aguero hat trick possibly?’

‘They were flattered by their win over Swansea, 2 late goals made it look comfortable but at 1-0 they were clinging on as they came under a ton of pressure. Can’t see anything but a win for us.’

‘As long as we don’t make too many changes we should win this one comfortably. The Geordies will be up for it but we’ve hit a bit of form and they won’t be able to live with our attacking players.’

‘We’ll lose this one. Chelsea was an end of season game where Chelsea just strolled around. Newcastle will be a Cup Final. It’s an absolutely massive game for them. They will be nervous, but entirely committed.’

‘I suppose statistically we are due a defeat up there, our record is pretty outstanding really.

Don’t care much for stats though. We need to f*** the Geordie w***ers, I would love to see the back of the self-righteous bastards, can’t stand em’.

‘It’s just really bad timing to play Newcastle, or Sunderland at this moment. This is their biggest ever game. Lose and I think they are relegated.’
