Liverpool 2 Newcastle 2  Saturday 23 April 3pm

We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle, to talk about some aspect of the match:

Nat Seaton:

“A game of two halves or what????

“Great fightback, couldn’t quite believe what I was seeing having been here so many times and not had much to cheer about.

“Rafa Benitez, Rafa Benitez…” THANK YOU!!

“Bring on Pardew…”

Jamie Smith:

“An amazing fightback and point, following a miserable opening half.

“I feel confident we can win the three remaining games with this tempo but unfortunately we need Sunderland to start losing as fast as we are picking up the points.

“The next few weeks are going to be agonising, but still there’s hope.”

Paul Lyon:

“Normally a point at Anfield is gratefully received no questions – but like Tuesday’s result you can’t help wishing it to be more.

“Great to see the lads fighting, thought we might have gone on to win tist one.

“Newcastle. United. Will never be defeated!!”

James Rutherford:

“What a comeback!

“A desperate first half where we couldn’t string more than two passes together.

“Had Steve McClaren been in charge, we would have got nothing from this game.

“Rafa has the players working for each other now. I’m just scared it’s too late.

“Although Cisse scored, I can’t quite fathom out how he is still getting the nod ahead of Mitrovic.

“Next week will decide our fate.”

Leazes Park Ender:

“An astonishing afternoon on Merseyside. A Rafa Benitez tactical masterclass too.

“Anyone else starting to see grains of confidence and belief returning? At 2-0 we looked buried.

“The results of others still makes it mission impossible, unless they go our way of course.

“But this team is at least is now showing some fight.

“We play again before Norwich take to the field.

“It’s the hope that kills, but at least it still exists. Just.”

Jamie Swan

“After two minutes you are left thinking here we go again…

“Away from home, two nil down at half time it seemed bleak. Under McClaren it would have turned into a four or five stuffing, guaranteed.

“Rafa is the man and his decisions are bearing fruit. Hell of a comeback in the circumstances and this point along with the City point scooped on Tuesday could be absolutely vital.

I’m going to watch the Great Escape on DVD tonight and I’m going to whistle the theme tune while painting my decking tomorrow – it’s on!”

Notts Toon:

“We would have lost a month ago. But we didn’t.”
