Mitrovic subbed in final seconds as Serbia win 1-0 in Estonia
A relatively successful night for Aleksandar Mitrovic as he played 90 minutes for Serbia in Estonia.
The Newcastle striker was left out of Friday’s defeat in Poland, after United asked for him to be given extra time to make sure he had recovered fullt from being knocked unconscious against Sunderland.
Mitrovic got in a few efforts on goal but didn’t fully test the Estonian keeper, wasting one glorious second-half headed chance that he nodded straight at the keeper when unmarked.
It was Manchester City’s Kolarov who came up with the winning goal, a superb left-footed free-kick from distance into the top corner in the 81st minute.
Mitrovic was subbed just as injury time was starting with Nikola Stojiljkovic replacing Newcastle’s number 45, though this appeared to be just a run of the mill substitution with nothing untoward.
Elsewhere on international night, Rafa Benitez will have an anxious 90 minutes as Rob Elliot gets his chance to try and impress ahead of the Euros, the Newcastle keeper starts for Ireland at home to Slovakia.
Meanwhile, Moussa Sissoko is once again left on the bench by France as they host Russia.
