Michael Owen previews Stoke v Newcastle

Michael Owen has given us his views on the battle between two of his old clubs.

Yes, it is easy to forget that as well as at Newcastle, he also stole a living from Stoke City in the twilight of his career.

Whilst they got him on a free from Manchester United in 2012 rather than the ridiculous fee Newcastle paid, Stoke were also well and truly stitched up.

In his one full season at the Britannia Stadium, Michael Owen didn’t start a single Premier League match and in his eight substitute appearances played only 93 minutes, scoring once.

As for Wednesday night, Michael Owen sees only one outcome with Newcastle set to follow up ‘being thrashed’ at Chelsea with another defeat by Stoke City.

Michael Owen writing for BetVictor:

“The Potters have an excellent recent record against Newcastle at the Britannia winning four of the last five.

“They can take all three points against the Magpies who haven’t played since being thrashed 5-1 by Chelsea back on February 13th!”

Interesting to see what Michael Owen also has to say about the Sunderland v Crystal Palace match which comes 24 hours earlier, on Tuesday night (tonight).

Predicting Palace to just edge the game, Owen says that Alan Pardew’s team (no wins in the last 10 league matches) are far too good to end up in a relegation fight. Interestingly, back in 2008/09 a lot of people were saying that Michael Owen and Newcastle United were too good to be relegated…

Michael Owen:

“A tough game to call despite the fact that Palace have only picked up three points from the last 30 on offer.

“The Eagles are too good a side to be embroiled in a relegation battle but a win for the Black Cats would see them just six points behind Alan Pardew’s side.”
