Good news/Bad news on Newcastle injuries ahead of Sunderland

On the Newcastle injuries front there could be some progress at last.

Whilst Paul Dummett, Fabricio Coloccini and Cheick Tiote are all set to miss the derby game, there are two other players who may return.

The Shields Gazette say that their information is that Dummett will be out until at least next month with his latest hamstring problem, whilst neither Coloccini or Tiote are likely to be fit enough for a match situation. Norwich in two weeks time looking a better bet.

However, the more positive news is that both Chancel Mbemba and Papiss Cisse are said to have a good chance of making Sunday’s game, with Rafa Benitez ready to give them as long as possible to prove their fitness before the crucial match.

The availability of Newcastle’s best defender would be a massive boost, whilst the option of Cisse off the bench would look far more likely to produce a goal than any other potential substitute.

It would be a tough call on whether to play Chancel Mbemba from the start if he is ready to return, as with a two week gap until an equally important game against Norwich and seven further matches to come, the DR Congo international would surely significantly increase United’s survival chances if we have him in a more disciplined Rafa Benitez defence.
