Tino Asprilla has sent Steve McClaren a simple message today

Steve McClaren has had a simple message delivered to him by Tino Asprilla.

It is 20 years ago this month that Tino landed on Tyneside after Kevin Keegan persuaded the brilliant maverick to sign for Newcastle.

However, fair to say that Asprilla doesn’t have quite the same level of affection for the current United boss.

Tino Asprilla sending out this message on Thursday afternoon to his 318,000 Twitter follows:

‘McLaren needs to go; PERIOD!’

Can’t quite imagine a Tino Asprilla fitting into Steve McClaren’s ultra-negative formations and tactics but it remains to be seen if the Head Coach clings onto his job for much longer, or whether he/Mike Ashley takes Tino’s advice.

Of the six teams fighting out the relegation positions, promoted pair Norwich and Bournemouth are the only other two clubs to have not replaced their manager during this season.

The popular perception is that Steve McClaren, like Alan Pardew before him, will cling onto his job simply because he does as he’s told and accepts he has little or no say at the football club, rather than results being the driving force as to whether he stays or goes.

This 18 day gap would have ideal if Newcastle were considering making a change but clearly that doesn’t look to be the case, at least at this moment in time.

By nine days time (5 March) Newcastle will have played Stoke and Bournemouth whilst many of their rival will have played three games, for better or worse the relegation picture could look a lot clearer by then.
