The silence from Sunderland has been deafening

The silence from down the road has been deafening, Sunderland have thus far failed to take any action nor make a comment, interestingly SAFC main supporters website ‘A Love Supreme’ has also failed to mention anything about it. The same website which was quick to laugh when Joey Barton got remanded a few years ago.

The simple fact is that Adam Johnson pleaded guilty yesterday to two Sexual offences involving an underage girl. Now let’s be brutally honest here , this was not some girl he met in a nightclub dressed up to look over 16, this is somebody who he groomed.

The fact he is facing trial over the coming days for two more alleged offences matters not, he has done the right thing eventually by pleading guilty on these two counts.

His legal team, paid obscene amounts to find loopholes in the law to defend his client, must have simply realised it was an open and shut case and advised Johnson accordingly, in the hope the judge would be lenient when the time for sentencing comes!

Now when this all originally broke, Sunderland immediately suspended the player – which was morally right despite the fact everyone  is innocent until proven guilty. However, when their relegation worries deepened, they suddenly bought him back into the fold.  They must have been convinced of his innocence or simply desperate, you decide.

The upshot is, that SAFC survived while others did not, and Adam Johnson was instrumental in some of the points they got, including a last minute winner up here…..a man who in his own mind knew he was guilty.

How do the fans of Burnley, Hull City, or even QPR, feel knowing this. It’s a plain fact but if you took Adam Johnson’s contribution out of SAFC last season they would have been relegated and one of the other three would have still been in the premier league.

I am not going into statistical analysis but he contributed, Sunderland survived, simple as that, costing one of those three other clubs millions in the meantime.

I hope today that Sunderland finally do the right thing and terminate his contract, the grey area between guilty and innocent no longer exists, I hope today that well respected website Sunderland fans website A Love Supreme calls for the same thing, instead of mysteriously ignoring it.

Finally, when all this is finally fully done and dusted, I hope Adam Johnson receives the same sentence as anyone else would, who is guilty of these appalling offences.
