The Newcastle v Chelsea player ratings by fans are a bit generous…
The Newcastle v Chelsea player ratings by United fans, giving us a perfect overview of Saturday’s match at Stamford Bridge.
Rob Elliot did his best in the most pressurised of conditions, maybe on another day he should have done better with one or two of the goals – or rather a really top class keeper would/could have saved some – but overall he was far better than all but one or maybe two in front of him.
The keeper actually was the second highest rated, even though it was still a lowly 4.5 out of 10.
Top marks given to the only player to get 5.0 or better – Andros Townsend (5.1). The winger never gave up and made a number of decent runs with little support, eventually getting a cracking goal which unfortunately is simply buried under the incompetence from the Newcastle team that surrounds it.
The third highest rated was fellow new signing Jonjo Shelvey (3.7) who just like Townsend, did his best to get United going, despite minimal help from team-mates.
Aleksandar Mitrovic (3.6) didn’t have the best of days but is still fourth highest, the striker yet again left isolated by Steve McClaren’s usual daft tactics, though he battled well with John Terry and ended up putting him out of tonight’s PSG match (hurrah!).
Some savage but justified marks at the very bottom end of the starting eleven, with Steven Taylor (1.9), Moussa Sissoko (1.9) and Gini Wijnaldum (1.8).
The shambles of a defence saw Coloccini (2.1) and out of position Rolando Aarons (2.1) next worst, whilst Daryl Janmaat (3.4) surely received most of his marks for his work going forward, as he was as shocking as the rest of them when it came to defending.
These are the collective fan ratings as at 10am on Tuesday 16 February.
