Newcastle United are lining up Rubin Kazan for a friendly later this month.
The club’s media partner The Mirror report that United will play the Russian side during the 18 day break between Saturday’s match against Chelsea and Wed 2 March when Newcastle travel to Stoke.
Earlier today Norwegian club Lillestrom confirmed that they will meet Newcastle in a friendly on Saturday 20 February, the weekend when FA Cup fifth round matches will be played…for those teams still in the competition.
The Norwegian club (their league starts in March and runs through into November) stating that the match which will take place at the La Manga Stadium in Spain, with Newcastle seemingly taking an extended break for warm weather training between these next two Premier League matches.
Rubin Kazan are in their winter break and return to league football in March. However, they already have a series of friendlies announced, with the Russian club facing Spanish club Linense (11 Feb), then two Norwegian clubs; Brann (24 February) and Sarpsborg (26 February).
No confirmation from the Newcastle end on either game but if the Rubin Kazan friendly is to take place, you would imagine it would be sometime during next week, considering United play on the 20th and the Russian outfit play on the 24th and 26th.
If these friendlies go ahead then it will give players such as Seydou Doumbia some much needed pitch time with his new team-mates, as well as ease some of the injured back into the first team frame.
Lillestrom say that their match with Newcastle has a 3pm Saturday kick-off time which equates to 2pm back in the UK.
For those desperate for something to watch, Lillestrom have confirmed that the friendly will be televised in Norway, so no doubt there will be access via the internet on some stream from somewhere and/or at those pubs and clubs who usually show foreign satellite broadcasted games.
Newcastle played Lillestrom in the Intertoto Cup in 2006, United victors by 4-1 over the two legs.
