Michael Owen prediction for Newcastle v West Brom

Michael Owen has taken a look at the Newcastle v West Brom clash and given us the benefit of his expertise.

The former United player believes there will be a lot of ‘out-classing’ going on this weekend for the north east big two.

Michael Owen predicting that Sunderland are going to get embarrassed at Liverpool, whilst he also thinks that Newcastle will out-class the Baggies.

Newcastle fans would settle for a scrappy 1-0 win tomorrow and any out-classing would be seen as a big bonus.

Playing against a West Brom side managed by Tony Pulis, sadly any hoped for bonus of out-classing or entertainment is likely to be in short supply.

Michael Owen thinks West Brom were lucky to get a last gasp equaliser at Swansea in midweek and doesn’t think it likely they will ‘get out of jail again’ this time, when facing Newcastle.

However, surely it is exactly that durability and graft that Pulis instills in his team that makes it very likely that West Brom won’t find themselves ‘in jail’ at 5pm on Saturday afternoon.

Newcastle supporters will hope that McClaren will go positive and try to blow the opposition away as they did to an extent against West Ham, though even that day saw United hanging grimly on despite playing arguably their best football of the season in the opening half hour.

The very fact that Newcastle have won only one of their last nine games (all competitions), while West Brom have only lost one of their last nine (all competitions), doesn’t suggest that any easy Newcastle victory is on the cards.

However, three points are vital against West Brom and so let’s hope Michael Owen is right and Jonjo Shelvey can inspire as he did against West Ham.

Michael Owen writing for BetVictor:

“Similar comments (Owen thinks Liverpool will out-class Sunderland after losing to Leicester) apply to Newcastle, who were beaten 3-0 at Goodison on Wednesday but return to St James Park having spent £29million in the January Transfer Window and likely to out-class the Baggies at the weekend.

“West Brom needed an injury-time equaliser to earn a share of the spoils with Swansea at the Hawthorns and will struggle to get out of jail again in the North-East. “
