Friday Press Conference: Steve McClaren confirms three Newcastle players fit for Chelsea

Steve McClaren has given his pre-Chelsea press conference earlier than usual.

The United Head Coach met the media early on Friday morning ahead of the trip to Stamford Bridge.

The good news is that the doubts hanging over Daryl Janmaat have now dispersed, with Steve McClaren confirming that the Dutch full-back has shaken off a dead leg and knock to the ankle, so he will be fit to face Chelsea.

Two other players will return from injury and be available for selection, with McClaren saying that both Jack Colback and Emmanuel Riviere have trained all week and could be included.

Whilst you can’t imagine Riviere getting any further than possibly being on the bench, the United boss must now make his choice at left-back.

It looks a tough call to keep Rolando Aarons in when he could be up against the calibre of Willian and others, a far different proposition than facing a West Brom team who didn’t appear to have any attackers never mind an out and out winger!

Aarons really struggled against Aaron Lennon in the previous game and the smart money must be on a more defensive player, either Colback or the now free from suspension Jamaal Lascelles replacing the winger turned temporary full-back.

Steve McClaren has of course now the option of involving Jack Colback in his midfield, though that would appear unlikely considering the way Shelvey and Tiote performed together last weekend.

Siem de Jong has now also joined in with training after that nasty finger to the eye injury, though he won’t be involved at Chelsea.
